The NIE (Número de Identificación de Extranjero) is a foreigner identification number assigned to non-Spanish citizens who have dealings with Spanish authorities. It is required for many legal, financial, employment, and administrative activities in Spain, including property purchases, work contracts, becoming self-employed (Autónomo), and various government procedures.
The NIE is a unique alphanumeric number that identifies you as an individual foreigner in Spain. It is issued on a white A4 certificate and contains your name, nationality, and NIE number. It does not include a photograph and is not a residency document. Having an NIE does not grant residency rights or permission to stay in Spain beyond what your passport allows.
At Settle Easy, we help make the process straightforward by arranging appointments, preparing official documentation, and guiding you through every step of the application process.
While this is an option in some cases its not the best option for most people. EU persons should apply from inside Spain shortly after arrival or even on a visit to Spain before moving. Non EU persons who will be getting visa, will be given a NIE number on their visa and ususally do not need to apply before hand. If you are a person who plans to purchase a property in Spain before moving to Spain or you don't plan to move to Spain at all , the consulate NIE option might be best for you.
The ability to do this from inside of Spain varies from office to office, with many areas not allowing it at all. Reach out to us and we can discuss the options of getting it from the consulate with or without a visa. If you are seeking the NIE so you can apply for a DIgital Nomad visa, we can apply for you visa on your behalf, as a professional representative WITHOUT a NIE number.
NIE = NUMBER (numero) of identity for foreigners TIE = CARD (tarjeta) of identity for foreigners The confusion comes because the NIE (number) is Printed on the TIE (card) and so people often mistakenly call it an NIE CARD when it is a residency document called the TIE.
it is simply an Identification number which can be assigned to a foreigner to facilitate official dealings with spanish government and entities. You can not come to Spain and exceed the number of days allowed based on the passport you hold just because you have a NIE
