Spanish Public Healthcare Assistance

Spain is recognized for having one of the best public healthcare systems in the world. However, understanding eligibility requirements, registration procedures, and healthcare documentation can be confusing for newcomers.

At Settle Easy, we help individuals and families navigate the healthcare registration process and gain access to the medical services available to residents in Spain.

What we can help you with

Working in Spain (employed or autónomo)

If you’re paying into the system through a Spanish work contract or as a self-employed autónomo, you’re granted public healthcare automatically. We help you figure out your assigned health center and get your SIP card sorted.

Adding family members of workers/autónomos

Your family members (dependents) are also entitled to coverage through you, but they need to be manually added and approved. We help manage that application process from start to finish.

Access for residents not working in Spain

If you’ve never paid into Spanish social security, you can access public healthcare through the convenio especial after one year registered on the padrón. This lets you pay into the system directly. It has some limitations — medications aren’t subsidized, for example — but it doesn’t exclude pre-existing conditions and gives you full access to Spain’s excellent healthcare.

Permanent and long-term residents (5+ years in Spain)

Depending on your circumstances, permanent and long-duration residents may qualify for healthcare coverage at no monthly cost. We can help you work out whether you meet the criteria and manage the application, wherever in Spain you’re based.
